Comprehensive Parenting Plan
(Custody) Evaluations

How We Support Families

Our Parenting Plan evaluations—often referred to as custody evaluations—are conducted by licensed psychologists and trained evaluators using a team-based approach to ensure objectivity, accuracy, and fairness. These evaluations are ordered by family courts or child protection agencies to clarify custody arrangements, co-parenting capacity, and child safety considerations.

Each evaluation involves a thorough and balanced assessment of both parents and the child(ren), integrating:

  • Psychological testing for each parent and child
  • Home and office observations of parent–child interactions
  • Joint parent meetings, when appropriate
  • Review of relevant records (e.g., school, therapy, medical, IEPs)
  • Consideration of risk factors such as violence, substance use, or parental alienation

At the conclusion of the process, HSSA provides a comprehensive written report containing evidence-based recommendations regarding custody, visitation, and parenting schedules; strategies for conflict resolution; and, when indicated, recommendations for therapy or parent coaching.

Evaluations are conducted in-person at one of our offices in Lancaster, Mountville, Harrisburg Area, or Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, with home visits scheduled as needed.

Our clinicians approach each case with professionalism, neutrality, and compassion—recognizing that custody matters involve complex emotions and high stakes. We strive to ensure that every recommendation supports the child’s stability, safety, and long-term well-being.
