About HSSA

The group Hugh S. Smith, Ph.D. & Associates, P.C. was created in 1998 to meet the growing demand for excellence in psychological services. Presently comprised of Licensed Psychologists, Psychological Evaluators and Therapists, Hugh S. Smith, Ph.D. & Associates, P.C. has become a respected name in the community we serve.

Our reach is constantly expanding and adapting to the need for delivering thorough, data-driven, integrative psychological evaluation reports in a timely manner, and in the provision of individual, family and group therapies. We pride ourselves in the emphasis on collaboration with client, family members and caregivers, schools and agencies in a strengths-based approach to treatment needs.

Our Services

Independent Psychoeducational Testing

Psychoeducational testing can help identify features of a student that impact on their functioning in school. Our licensed psychologists and certified school psychologists select approved standardized measures to provide independent assessments, including second opinion reports, that can determine intellectual disability, giftedness, academic achievement, learning or processing disorders and/or social or behavioral functioning.

Psychological Assessment

Psychological evaluations can take many forms, but generally involve a clinical interview, observations, and testing to provide guidance to the individual, family, treatment providers and/or educators in meeting a specific concern or need. A formal report is produced to aids in diagnostic clarity and provides recommendations to guide treatment.

Therapy Services

Our trained and caring therapists use a strengths-based approach to explore underlying conflicts and struggles, while empowering improved communication patterns, self-understanding, and coping skills to promote positive growth. We are well-versed in working with children, adolescents, and adults.

We provide individual, couple, family, and group therapy services.

Seminars and Teaching

Dr. Smith provides a number of lively discussions and thought provoking lectures and trainings. These can involve a one-day seminar, weekly or monthly classes, or consultative services depending on the needs of your group, educational institution, or organization.

Internships/Practicum

We provide a planned, sequential training program that contributes to ongoing excellence in the field of psychology. Based on a “practitioner-scholar” model, we strive to deliver training based upon sound research, outcome measures and use of evidence-based assessment tools and interventions.

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), a federal law that addresses patient privacy, governs Hugh S. Smith, Ph.D. & Associates, P.C., as does the Pennsylvania State Board of Psychology. As required, Hugh S. Smith, Ph.D. & Associates, P.C. has adopted a Privacy Notice that reviews patient rights as well as the obligation of our group to protect individual health information.
